The basement seems like it's one of the more useless parts of the house. Many people use it to store old belongings or even just use it as a laundry room. This is partly the reason why the place becomes so dank, dark and plain uninhabitable. But this shouldn't always be the case when it comes to the basement. One can actually turn it into something that functions other than a storage facility or a Laundromat. There are many things that a basement can become even with its low ceilings and seemingly unchangeable plumbing and pipe condition. With a little renovation and remodeling, one can actually turn the basement into any of the following rooms. • Home Cinema – Ever had a problem with having guests over to watch the latest football game or DVD because you didn't have enough space in the living room? Then why watch in the living room when you can convert your whole basement area into a home cinema? By simply cleaning out the basement and making sure that all low hanging pipes are replaced with something more practical, you can have a dry and fun place to hang out with your friends. Place a large screen and a projector to view all your movies in and you will have your own mini cinema. By adding carpeting to the basement, everyone will have a space to roll around in while you enjoy your favorite flick or football game. • Game room – You may have already seen some basements decked out with billiard tables and dart boards on the wall. But you can take it a step further and create your own personal arcade that can include pinball machines and gaming consoles that your children will thoroughly enjoy. By turning it into a game room, you also make it possible for children to make all the noise that they want without causing a ruckus with guests who are upstairs. Just don't soundproof the place because that makes it a potential hazard. • Jam studio – Do you have a band and no studio to practice in? Is playing in the garage more of a noise barrage to neighbors than actual music? Then you can jam all your riffs in the basement by converting it into your own personal music studio. This is where soundproofing can actually be helpful, especially if you are an adult and responsible. The basement is actually a great place to contain all sorts of sounds without disturbing your neighbors the slightest. • A guest bedroom – The basement is a huge place. In fact, some houses have such huge basements that they can have another small living place right underneath what they have already. This is why the basement can be renovated to be a guest room. You can install another bathroom, and with the right ventilation system you can even install a mini-kitchen so that your guest won't have to go through the hassle of using your kitchen while he's staying there. No matter how small or large the basement is, a guest bedroom is as good an idea as anything else, especially if you have frequent visitors. |
