Your house may look great when you first bought it but over time the wallpaper will peel off or fade away. The floor can get scratched. The carpet can get stained and faded. When this happens, you have no recourse but to replace it. If you are using wallpaper and would want to change it, here are the various types of wall covering that you can choose from. 1. Vinyl wall covering. Unlike the conventional wallpaper, the design for vinyl wallpaper is printed onto a plastic film or laminated to a paper backing. The design can be plain, textured or embossed to give it more life. There is also one unique type of vinyl wallpaper which is known as vinyl foils. The concept is the same with the regular vinyl wallpaper but the difference lies on the appearance. Vinyl foils have a metallic appearance making it a bit sparkly and attractive. Vinyl wallpaper can be scrubbed to remove stains but be careful not to soak it too much because the seams can detach from the wall. Most vinyl wallpapers are available in ready to attach forms and all you have to do is to peel the plastic layer. Most vinyl wallpapers are used on areas of the house that is usually subjected to scratches, brushes and scuffs like the hallway, landings and even staircases. You can also use this type of wall covering on kitchen walls and bathrooms. This type of wall covering can be rather expensive but it is guaranteed to last longer than other types. 2. Washable wallpaper. This may look like your regular wallpaper but it has a thin plastic layer that makes it water resistant as well as stain resistant. The prints can be textured or embossed just like your regular wallpaper. Ready to use washable wallpaper is also available. With this type there is no need to use adhesives because ready pasted forms of washable wallpaper can be placed on the wall directly. The thin layer of plastic can be washed or wiped with soap and water but scrubbing is not allowed since this can damage the thin plastic layer. The only thing though is that when it comes to stripping, washable wallpapers are hard to remove because the plastic layer can prevent water from getting through. So the other option is to score it or use a steam wallpaper stripper. 3. Printed wallpaper. This is the most famous type of wallpaper covering. Printed wallpaper is available in various prints which can either be textured or embossed. Cheaper types of wallpaper don't really last that long because these can tear easily that is why it is hard to match the edges when you are putting them up. Hand painted wallpapers belong to the expensive types. These wallpapers are more durable and are way better than the cheaper ones. 4. Duplex papers. This is the strongest type of wallpaper. Duplex paper is composed of two layers of paper bonded together during the manufacturing process. Duplex papers act more like wallpapers. To hang this in place you will still need paste or wallpaper adhesives. When hanging, one must be careful enough to keep the adhesive from the face of the paper. |
